Thirteen-year-old French boy Gilbert Barole (Serge Prieur) wants to join the squad when he sees their glory after liberating his town. Told that he can't, he follows the squad anyway. When Lt. Hanley is wounded, Caje tells him to take Hanley back to town. They find the Germans have moved back in and are setting a trap. Gilbert must find Sgt. Saunders and tell him about the Germans.
