Relations between Diane and Alan are at an all-time low, following her admission that she's in love with Jack. But while Diane desperately tries to make amends, Alan refuses to forgive her for her betrayal. Diane tells him that she hopes they can remain friends. He demands to know if she had been seeing Jack without his knowledge, and he is infuriated by her response. He is further incensed when he discovers that Bernice had been aware of her mother's feelings for Jack all the time.
