Mateo was condemned by the Holy Inquisition five years ago and had to flee the city to save his life. An enigmatic emissary asks him to return to Seville and take Valerio out of town, the bastard son of his friend Germán recently deceased. Fulfilling his promise, Mateo enters Seville clandestinely and takes refuge in the house of an old friend, Luis de Zúñiga. Mateo moves through the underworld of the city until he finds Valerio.
